Pikesville, Maryland dates back over two centuries to the late 1600s, when Fort Garrison (a historic fortification building) was built to serve as a stronghold against attacks during the French and Indian War. Sir Francis Nicholson commissioned the construction of this frontier in 1693, but the property was built and acquired by the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks in 1695.

In 1971, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Come 1798, it was in private ownership.

Modifications were made to the Fort Garrison in the early 19-century, including the addition of a second story loft and shingle roof, but it still stands in its original location at approximately 48 feet long and 18 feet wide. Back then, Pikesville was a tiny town that only ran a few short blocks.
